Despina is a Greek-American artist, splitting her time between the UK, UK and Greece. She primarily focuses on documentary photography, storytelling and research, and fine art photography. She is interested in topics concerning culture and human expression, primarily through alternative photographic processes and analog photography mediums.
Her work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and events throughout the world, namely New York, Rome Italy, Athens Greece, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. Her work has also been published in a number of publications (including newsprint, advertising, campaigning, digital marketing and social media). She also freelances and/or staffs clientele in the governmental, nonprofit, philanthropic, news/media and creative/visual arts backgrounds, respectively.
She holds a Master of Science in International Social and Public Policy (with a heavy focus on Migration Policymaking and Research) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is also a Temple University alumna having received a BA in Political Science, as well as a minor in Photography from Tyler School of Art. Her studies at Temple focuses heavily on Urban Politics, Policymaking through research data collection and storytelling, and Photojournalism. Lastly, she studied, worked and exhibited at Temple University Rome in 2016.
In 2021, she founded and now co-directs Culture and Arts Collective (subcommittee) within the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America. Here she connects Greek-American artists and artisans of Ikarian descent as well as locals from Ikaria to create, network and collaborate. She organizes exhibitions (in both the USA and Ikaria, Greece), raises money for philanthropic causes in Ikaria, organizes workshops, and helps create local partnerships in Ikaria. She intends to expand her outreach, educational, philanthropic and creative endeavors specifically in Ikaria moving forward.
